Why Pixar is so successful?

Toy story, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, etc… most of the people have seen this movies, and maybe not only once, but we need to figure out what is that “especial thing” that makes Pixar successful? It is for all known that some of the things that define Pixar are innovation, talent and prestige. But how do directors can make the fusion between all those fun things and serious work? I decided to summarize this into three main key points.

First of all, big companies like Pixar should balance finances and art. Tension is not a necessary bad thing, if this in a short future will generate huge products and income. Films like this can be very expensive and spending a huge amount of money on something that may be not so common can be risky, but in Pixar they know for sure that you have to risk in order to win, and this strategy has given very positive outcome throughout the years.

Second of all, the necessity of some managers of controlling everything and knowing each and every minimum movement of their workers can affect the creativity and innovation. But in Pixar they know they have people they can trust, and this is by far the best method in order to have a successful company. On Pixar they let creativity take its own curse, no stress, and of course “no rules”, and by no rules I mean not having the same strict set of orders that regular companies may have.

Lastly, being safe doesn’t necessarily means success. Being on an unstable place where art, innovation, new ideas are formed, time, technology, and everything is on balance can have an excellent outcome. On Pixar “they let you be” and this makes the company have new fresh ideas instead of having an old-fashion way of working and thinking, in other words they let you do thing that have never being done before and this is a method that should be admired.

In conclusion I personally think that Pixar is very “laid back” company in some sort of way and that is what makes this company to be a successful one. When it erases formalizations at all costs and makes its employees be who they truly are makes them enjoy working there and it creates happiness on its surroundings.

lola

What thing can make the course of a story change?, Have we realized that the smallest thing or situation can change the entire future?. The relevance of a simple thing can that its essential in every movie. We can appreciate a great example in the movie Lola Rennt. The main part of the film is divided in three "runs". Each run starts from the same situation but develops differently and has a different outcome. Now we are going to analyze what exactly is the special thing that makes the outcome of each of the three plotlines different?

Music, I personally think that music in this film has a lot to do with the change in plotlines between runs, in the first two “runs” the director with the music, is giving us the sense of intensity, rush and tension. In the other hand in the third “run” we feel more hopeful and content, and of course we get the sense that everything is going to work out now.

Reaction, the reaction of Lola when she receives that life changing phone call makes a huge impact on the course of the story, desperation and numbness invade her in the first two runs, and this, in consequence, makes the story to end in a wrong way, but on the other hand in the third act when she hangs the phone, she reacts in a faster way giving her a split second in advance.

Encounters, on the three runs Lola encounters herself with different people, a dog, a group of nuns, a mother with a child, etc… But in each situation she reacts differently and this gives her seconds in delay or in advance.

In conclusion, for me the writer of this magnificent story is giving a very consistent and clear message, witch it could be that even the smallest thing that happens changes completely the future.

Field trip

I think we should go and do this because

-it's not going to take that much time for those who dont have enough time.
-it would be a supportive field trip for the organization that is making all of this possible.
- it is a cultural and artistic project .

(february 17th to march 1st)

OH ROMEOOOOO!!!

Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's most popular stories of young, teenage lovers. He used a very dramatic structure, and a variable switching between comedy and tragedy to heighten tension. I think every character represented in this story is crucial to the development of it but personally one of my favorite characters would be Romeo.

Romeo, being a poetry fan, is kind of inspired by all the books he reads and I think it affects in some way his personal life. After first kissing Juliet, she tells him “you kiss by the book,” saying that he is not original. I also think that the desperate love Romeo felt for Rosaline at the beginning of the story its anything but a fantasy of a non-exciting reality. And finally falling in love with Juliet in such a passionate way demonstrates the spontaneity that most of the times occurs in love stories.

In addition, another thing that I considerer interesting about Romeo is his bravery instinct when doing something’s, like for example going to his family’s rival party not caring of what may happened, just going because he wanted to. Another example of this could be the way he reaches for Juliet on her balcony hiding from everything and everyone.

Lastly I really like Romeo’s capacity of love, once again risking his life by sneaking into the garden of his enemy’s daughter shows his truly and passionate love for Juliet. Killing his wife cousin just for the love he felt for his friend when he got killed. And of course the suicide upon hearing of Juliet’s death.

In conclution this novels and his characters, mainly Romeo, shows us how living a person can be not caring his/her age and in some way it teaches us how we have to fight for our own personal desires like Romeo.

Man on fire is a great movie!!!

In recent years filmmakers have tried to reach markets by creating a huge connection between the viewer and the movie and for that instance they become successful. In my personal opinion the movie “Man on fire” is an excellent movie and of course, an amazing example of this method of creating a viewer-film bond.

In the first place, this movie’s theme is about a very current and popular topic concerning the Mexican people, such as corruption and organized crime. In mexico one of the most important issues are kidnaping and this is what happens to Pita (Dakota Fanning), one of the main characters of this movie is kidnapped after leaving her piano class also police in Mexico conforms a huge part of corruption, they are involved in this planned crime and lastly by giving some money to the Mexican authorities to erased some evidence involving the kidnap.

In the second place, this movie show’s how someone can do anything for an unknown person and this is a very peculiar thing about mexican people,Creasy (Denzel Washington) risks his own life in order to protect Pita; even though it was his job he did it because he felt a certain connection with the little girl. By the end of the movie Creasy sacrifice his freedom for the love he feels for pita and lastly Pita’s father, Samuel (Marc Anthony) even though it was not a good choice, he planned pita’s kidnap in order to have a better economic life.

Finally, this film includes a very characteristic relevance of the different social classes existing in this country. Pita’s house is huge and it is located in one of the most well known suburbs of Mexico in comparison of the neighborhood where the kidnapper’s family lived. And lastly the school where pita goes is catholic school, and in Mexico some of the most high-class schools are religious.

In conclusion I believe that Man on fire is a great movie because it achieved the high expectations we, as an audience, were expecting. It gave goose bumps to every Mexican that watched it, including myself, for the fact that it created a subconscious bond between the viewer and the film itself.

James Dean

James Dean was an American film actor. Some of his most relevant leading roles are Rebel
Without a Cause(1955), East of Eden(1955),Giant(1956) and some others.
James Dean was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Dean the 18th best male movie star on their AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list.
By the time he had a leading role in Rebel Without a Cause he caused a huge Impact on culture and media, teenagers felt identified with him, he was sort of a leader of all the misunderstood young people.Today, Dean is also often considered an icon because of his "experimental" take on life, which included his ambivalent sexuality. There have been several accounts of Dean's sexual relationships with both men and women.
He died in a car accident.

Choices

When do we really realize that we are making things the wrong way? Does it has to happen something terrible or a tragedy? Or do we simply feel it in our bones. It was January 5th, 2011. By the time I woke up that day I had received two texts on my phone, the first text was from one of my best friends telling me that we were celebrating the upcoming school year at his house that night and that I was supposed to be there at 11 pm. I smiled. The second text was from an unknown person and the message on it was the following:

Hello Gaby I hope you’re having a wonderful time surrounded by all your loved ones, the reason why I am sending this text its because me and my family are planning a visit to this orphanage tonight. That way we can give presents to the children living there and hope to make them have a special night. Call me if you’re joining us.

At first I was confused, because my phone didn’t recognize the number and of course by the contents of it. I ignored it completely. I rushed out of bed and went down stairs were mom and dad were waiting for my sister and me so we could have breakfast together. While grabbing a bite at my french toast I asked my dad if I could go out that night with my friends. Obviously at first I got a big "no, no". But after some begging, puppy faces etc.. I got my permission.
It was 9.30 pm when I was about to get a shower, I felt weird, like something “wasn’t right”. I stopped, and just like that I was replying that text I recieved sooner that day asking who it was? and what was the exact plan. I got an answer back 5 minutes later, and it was from an old high school friend, I just took a deep breath and started to get ready.
As I waited in my friends house front door I started to get nervous and anxious about this because I had no expectations at all. Finally I saw her and she welcomed me with a warm hug and ask me in. After a while we got all the presents in the van and left the house. I will never forget the moment when we arrived to the orphanage, and we got to hang for a while with all these beautiful boys and girls. As I left the building I felt proud of my choice and I got to think how valuable can be the things we make in an effort to achieve the happiness for others. That night, when I was in bed, I closed my eyes and smile.
